Why seasonal and local?
Why buy seasonal and local food?
Fresh, local and seasonal food, particularly vegetables, can be much cheaper than imported vegetables.
Fresh vegetables and fruit have more vitamins in them than ones that have been stored and transported halfway around the world.
Local food supports local farmers and retailers.
British farming has among the highest standards for rearing livestock in the world, so animals are kept more humanely than in many other countries and you know that by buying British the animals have not suffered unnecessarily.
Local and seasonal food has much less of an impact on the environment.
